Two packages down, one to go -- which would be great if I didn't know that my third package is sitting somewhere in my town, either in the back of a postal truck or in the post office itself x.x

My first package, the first season of Slayers, arrived at my house on Thursday -- which would've been fine, but it arrived in a mailbox on Wednesday. Yes, just not /my/ mailbox. The mail truck misdelivered the (correctly labeled) package to my gramma's house, next door. Not too big a deal, since my gramma gave it to my mom the next day, but it's a reminder that my town's postal service has yet to prove itself as entirely competent to me.

The second package, containing the third season of Slayers (it was backordered when I ordered, which is why it was separate) came on Friday afternoon (I need to check it, because one of the discs has marks on it ... I hope it plays OK). Also in my mailbox was a delivery notice listing a package from "Sender's Name: Japan." I was ecstatic. This, I thought, must be my coveted Lelouch action figure! I was a bit disappointed that they hadn't just left it at my house (no one had been home at the time to accept the package), but I figured that I could just buckle down on Saturday to make sure I didn't miss its redelivery.

Starting about 2 p.m. today, I moved onto my living room couch with New Moon in hands, ready to get some reading done until the mail came with my package. As the minutes passed, I grew increasingly impatient. (My choice of reading material probably didn't help things -- increasing frustration with Bella and all that.) Finally, at about 4:15 p.m., I marched out to the mailbox, though I had neither heard nor seen the mail truck. I opened it ... and with great disgust, pulled a few letters and a magazine out. Either my mail truck had come abnormally early or they were quiet like ninjas. They certainly didn't come up to my door for redelivery of my package -- even before I began my vigil, both my mom and I had been around the house, and I don't see how both of us could have missed a knock on the door (which I had answered immediately when FedEx came to bring a package for my mom).

I inspected the delivery notice once again. I think I've gotten these before -- as I recall though, I didn't have to do anything for them to just bring the package to the house again. Was I supposed to fill out the card or something? I thought that would just be to set a specific date for redelivery, or to bring with should I choose to pick up the package from the post office. No matter how many times I read it over, it still doesn't entirely make sense to me -- there should be some default option, but I don't know what it is.

What I did see on the card was that my package would be "available for pick-up after 6/28/08." OK, fine, if I couldn't count on getting it at home, I would get it from the post office. But did this mean that it was at the P.O. at that moment, or that it would be there on Monday?

After a few minutes of waffling by the phone, I called the number on the back of the card. Completely out of character, I know, but I wanted my package so badly that I was willing to use the phone (heh, my phone phobia ...). I told the lady who answered about my delivery notice and asked if I could pick my package up today. She said no -- the post office window was closed. (x.x Yeah, I know, P.O. must close early on Saturday -- good thing I called first.) She said I could call back Monday morning and have it redelivered. I asked if I could pick it up on Monday instead. She wasn't sure, and told me again to call back Monday morning.

Le sigh. No Lelouch figure for now. I really hope I can just pick up my package from the post office, because I'm tired of waiting for the mail truck, but slightly uncomfortable at the idea of having my precious package sit exposed on my doorstep.

If someone knows exactly what is supposed to be done with the delivery notice (I mean, would I be having fewer problems if I had somehow filled it out and left it in my mail box, or would that just result in my package being redelivered a few days later?), I would appreciate hearing it ^^; I really thought they would automatically try to redeliver it, but that does not seem to be the case.

(Oh, well. I am surprised that my package came this quickly. It's only been 10 days since I got notice that my item was shipped.)

Anyway, my last few days have been busy. I worked Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday night I hung out with my high school friends, Thursday night I went to a high school graduation party for my parents' friends' daughter, and Friday I put a few more hours into Odin Sphere. With nearly 40 hours on my file, I'm well into Mercedes' story (only two levels left). I didn't expect to be very interested in her story, but a talkative little frog by the name of *small spoiler* Ingway has increased my curiosity over what will happen by quite a bit. (Because yes, as a human, he's the third bishie of the game ^_^) Mercedes herself is better than when I started off with her. She's grown up to some extent (going from childish princess to almost competent queen), and I've grown more used to her combat style. It's nice to see regular shots with her psypher weapon make small dents in boss's HP, even if I know I can be knocked down in a few hits if I'm not attentive to my defense. I still like fighting as Gwen best (Cornelius was great, but I had a hard time controlling his spin attack), but I don't doubt any more that Mercedes' weapon is the most powerful.

It's also safe to say that Odin Sphere has sneaked its way onto my list of favorite games. I'm not sick of it at all yet -- in fact, I'm looking forward to seeing how the end of Mercedes chapter plays out, as well as those of Oswald (♥) and Velvet (her role in Cornelius' chapter made her grow in my affection, especially that ending ♥). The real-time fighting is a nice stress reliever, and I really like the idea that you can gain HP levels by eating good food. (My leveling up usually consists of fighting a bit in order to get ingredients, then ordering a few delectable dishes in Pooka Village -- if only reality worked this way, heh.) Even though the levels each character goes through are the same (in different orders, though), going through them with different characters really changes things, since their strengths, weaknesses, and goals are all different. This is really a character focused game. The choice of English or Japanese to listen to (I switched between the languages for Gwen's story, stuck with the English for Cornelius, and stuck to the Japanese for Mercedes) helps too. And of course, the graphics are still gorgeous. The only problems are the slowdown (especially in the Netherworld) and the loading times (especially in Pooka Village), but those are negligible with all the positives.

*Yes, yes, I do love this game, and yes, I will stop fangirling now ^_^*

On the other side of my affection scale is the aforementioned New Moon. Why is this book so long? It doesn't need to be as long as it is. I'm still having trouble figuring out exactly why I hate these books so much, because the writing itself isn't awful (though it is terribly dragged out) -- it's Bella that I detest. She's so ... so .... DAMN SPECIAL. (Was Meyer listening to the song "Creep" when she wrote these books?) She's far too good for normal people, but males of both the normal and abnormal(ly beautiful) variety fall for her for no reason that I can see. And all she can do is be like, Nuuuu, my gorgeous beautiful super-sexy smoldering-eyed Edward, why won't you make me a vampire like yoouuuu? *whinge* Except now that he's "gone," she just sits and complains about the "hole" in her torso, which she describes as if it's physical entity (My hole is festering now, I think it's mad at me!). Jacob's OK, but I don't understand why he likes Bella so much. Edward's going to come back very soon and annoy me again, because he and Bella together are nothing if not annoying. (So, why am I still reading? Because I feel like I need to keep up with you guys who have read them already XD)

BTW, I have official leave from work for July 16-19, so I am ready and eager for adventures ^^

OK, time to work some more on Mercedes' chapter ^_^

I'll probably post pictures, if (a big if) I am able to get my figure on Monday.

THE END.
