I have taken many photos that I like -- most of them more for the photo's content (friends that are dear to me, an amazing place I visited, a particularly delicious and beautiful thing I ate) than the aesthetics of the photograph itself. I can't really be an objective judge of my own photography (I'm an amateur and have no idea what to look for), so I have no idea which pictures of mine are best from that standpoint. I only know what I like best.
Day 9 - A photo you took
(Anyone know of a free image host with better pic quality than Photobucket? Oh, well.)
This is from the last time I was in Kyoto, when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and the streets were full of tourists and natives there to see them. It was crazy trying to get around the city that day, but completely worth it. Thinking of the cherry blossoms even now make something in me swell with joy. Ephemeral beauty -- all the more lovely because it does not last. The cherry blossoms were gone before I knew it, and the same was true for my time in Japan.
... Anyway. I could've chosen any of my dozens of cherry blossom pictures, but I chose this one. Why? The cherry blossoms are probably set off to better effect in other pictures, but this one has the Japanese sign (pedestrian and bike crossing) and the walk signal, which in Japan plays little noises that I quickly fell in love with, and the pale blue sky in the background. It's ordinary but lovely to me somehow, and this photo always catches my eye when I scroll through my pictures.
